Frequently Asked Questions

Will my original film be safe, and will it be returned?
All your original film will be returned by registered post. If you have a PO Box or work address, we suggest you use that as your return address.

How do I prepare films for posting?
Order nowSend them in the original metal canisters if you have them, inside a padded post bag. We recommend registered post. Jot down the registered post number and you'll be able to track its progress on the Aust Post website: http://auspost.com.au/track/ Express post is usually safe, but it is not traceable- ie nobody has to sign for it.

Why is frame-by-frame DVD transfer better?
Other (cheaper) methods involve projecting your film and re-recording it on a digital medium. The frame by frame method of transfer to DVD is a scan of each frame one at a time, re-compiled into a digital format. There are therefore no problems with focus, flicker, jumps due to damaged sprockets, and no variations in light. Frame by frame transfer is the only method that will give you clear professional results. We actually guarantee the quality.

I've got three 4" reels, am I eligible for the 300ft price?
Sorry, no. Your price is 3 x $85=$255 + $12 post This covers the extra handling involved in loading and rewinding your reels. If you splice your 3 reels together and load them onto the one reel, you can have the 300ft price

What do I get if I pay you to archive my film?
We will make and retain a copy of your DVD in our office for you. If you lose your original at least there is a copy somewhere else.

Can you convert VHS to DVD, BETA to DVD, mini DV to DVD, Hi 8 to DVD?
Yes, you name it, we can copy it to DVD for you! Send us an email for pricing.

Will I be able to edit the resulting DVD on my computer?
If you would like a computer AVI file format of your film, you will need to send us a high capacity USB memory stick. A 400ft film uses up 8Gb. There is no extra charge for this service.

How do I know if there is already a soundtrack on my 8mm film?
On the side opposite the sprockets there will be a thin brown strip. If you don't have this magnetic stripe, you don't have any sound. If you do, it doesn't necessarily mean there is any sound recorded on it! If you have sound, it will be added to the DVD

What's the difference between standard 8mm and super 8mm film?
Standard 8mm movie film was effectively 16mm movie film cut down the centre to give two 8mm reels. That is why you used to put in a 25ft reel and turned it over when you got to the end. The end result is a 50ft reel of 8mm film. As you can see in the diagram, super 8mm film has smaller sprockets that are spread further apart. Its also the reason the same length of super 8, and standard 8 film, play for different lengths of time. Super 8 allows for a bigger frame and therefore a better quality image. We can transfer both 8mm and super 8 film to DVD.
8mm and Super 8

Do you convert 8mm film to Blu-ray? No. For the purposes of receiving 8mm film transfers, we are yet to be convinced that blu-ray offers any advantage over DVD. A Blu-ray disc won't play on a standard DVD player, so your DVD disc will be more compatible.

Your address is Taree NSW, why am I posting the film to South Australia? You could post it to us, but that would expose your original films to an extra trip through Australia Post. We have a special arrangement with our professional film lab in SA, that makes it possible for you to send direct, if your film is accompanied by our order form.
